The Power of Copper: Real or Placebo?

Copper:

Planet: Venus
Element: Water
Energy: Receptive
Powers: Energy Direction, Energy Balance, Healing, Love, Luck, Protection,
Astrology Relations: Libra, Taurus
Numerology Relations: 1, 6
Chakra relation: Heart Chakra

Copper has been adorn through the Ages as a symbol of health, healing, love, purifying the spirit and aiding in regeneration. Some wear copper as in jewelry, worn on the wrists can help with arthritis, and other similar ailments. Some wear it for a close spiritual connection. Is there any validity to Coppers 'Magical' properties or is it just a placebo effect?

Copper is proven through science as a great conductor used in various electronics and motors.
Copper is commonly used in jewelry, and folklore says that copper bracelets relieve arthritis symptoms. In alternative medicine, some proponents speculate that excess copper absorbed through the skin can treat some ailments, or that the copper somehow creates a magnetic field, treating nearby tissue.
In various studies, though, no difference is found between arthritis treated with a copper bracelet, magnetic bracelet, or placebo bracelet. As far as medical science is concerned, wearing copper has no known benefit, for any medical condition at all. A human being can have a dietary copper deficiency, but this is very rare, because copper is present in many common foods, including legumes (beans), grains, and nuts.
There is no evidence that copper even can be absorbed through the skin. But if it were, this could actually lead to copper poisoning, which may actually be more likely than beneficial effects.
More recently, some compression clothing has been sold with copper woven into it, with the same folk medicine claims being made. While compression clothing is a real treatment for some ailments, therefore the clothing may appear to work, the added copper may very well have no benefit beyond a placebo effect.

Copper peptide GHK-Cu is widely used in anti-aging cosmetics (INCI name: Copper tripeptide-1). Several controlled facial studies confirmed anti-aging, firming and anti-wrinkle activity of copper peptide GHK-Cu.
Abdulghani et al. established that facial cream containing GHK-Cu increased collagen in photoaged skin of 20 female volunteers, performing better than vitamin C and retinoic acid.
Leyden et al. conducted a 12-week facial study of GHK-Cu containing face and eye cream, reporting significant improvement of skin laxity, clarity and appearance, reduced fine lines and the depths of wrinkles and increased skin density and thickness comparing to placebo. GHK-Cu eye cream performed better than vitamin K cream.
Finkley et al. conducted 12 week facial study on 67 women and reported that GHK-Cu cream applied twice daily improved aged skin appearance, increased thickness, reduced wrinkles and strongly stimulated dermal keratinocyte proliferation as determined by histological analysis of biopsies. The same study found copper peptide GHK-Cu to be non-toxic and non-irritating.

Although copper is dismissed as a placebo when worn as jewelry, it is really up to the individual for results. Yet copper is proven effective as a copper peptide when placed on the skin. Possibly there is some information about Copper that our ancestors had, which was lost through time that only in the past 50 years we are beginning to fully understand.

The Dead Sea is Drying up

Scientists have concluded that 100,000 years ago, the Dead Sea once dried up, yet it restored itself some time later. One of the holiest seas represented in the bible and though out the middle east, may be drying up again. Evidence from satellite models show this effect and it has a lot of people worried. Most of the middle east depends on the run off of water from higher elevations into the Dead Sea for use, this in turn is causing the Dead Sea to run dry.

The vitamin rich soil left compacted for 1000's of years on the bottom of the Dead Sea help to fuel a worldwide billion dollar industry of spas and holistic healing remedies. With the water going dry it leaves the soil exposed to the sunlight and much of the minerals and vitamins left in the soil to evaporate and lose its potentcy over time. Such a ancient place left to wither is a sad fact and maybe even a sign left for us in Revelations.

Revelation Chapter 17

1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9 And here [is] the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, [and] the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him [are] called, and chosen, and faithful.
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

Most effective, you can make a natural strawberry and lemon juice paste by mashing strawberries into a mushy paste and adding about a teaspoon of fresh squeezed lemon juice and brushing your teeth for several minutes a few times a week. Be sure to brush your teeth clean after you try the strawberry and lemon paste or the coloring in the strawberry will have time to set it making your teeth pink.

Baking Soda is also a great and inexpensive alternative to brush away hard set in stains on teeth. Try it every day for 2 weeks and you will see a dramatic difference comparable to gels or whitening strips.

Apple Cider Vinegar is also just effective on teeth whitening if used as a mouth wash, just mix with equal parts water and swish for 30 seconds a day. Apple cider vinegar is also effective for killing odor causing bacteria in the mouth.

Curry May Prevent Alzheimer's Disease

Eating curry containing turmeric once or twice a week could prevent Alzheimer's disease and may researchers are investigating if it can be used as a treatment in those who already have it.

Professor Murali Doraiswamy, director of the Mental Fitness Laboratory at the Department of Psychiatry, Duke University Medical Center, Carolina, has told a conference that curcumin, from which turmeric is made, prevented the spread plaque found in the brains of Alzheimer's patients.
Plaques build up in the brain and are thought to affect the electrical signals between brain cells producing dementia symptoms.
Prof Doraiswamy told delegates at the Royal College of Psychiatrists' Annual Meeting in Liverpool that brain plaques dissolved in mice given high doses of curcumin and in younger mice the spice appeared to prevent them forming in the first place.

Trials are currently under way that could lead to a curry pill, he said.
Professor Doraiswamy said: "There is very solid evidence that curcumin binds to plaques, and basic research on animals engineered to produce human amyloid plaques has shown benefits. Turmeric has been studied not just in Alzheimer's research but for a variety of conditions, such as cancer and arthritis. Turmeric is often referred to as the spice of life in ancient Indian medical lore."

Pomegranate: Miracle Fruit

Pomegranates have been cultivated since ancient times, but did you know that new science has found surprising benefits for the fabled fruit? Research shows that the succulent seeds may slow aging, halt the spread of cancer, improve heart health, and have Viagra-like effects on men.
What’s more, this tasty treat is low in calories (only around 105 for an average-sized fruit) in addition to being loaded with nutrients. High in vitamin C and potassium, the bright red fruit also boasts high levels of antioxidants. And if you eat the seeds rather than drinking the tangy juice, you’ll have added fiber in your diet as well.
The ruby-red fruit is difficult to resist, according to mythology. In fact, some Biblical scholars believe that it was the pomegranate, not the apple, which was the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. In Greek mythology, Persephone was condemned to spend six months in the Underworld each year because Hades tricked her into eating a few pomegranate seeds.
Here’s a glimpse at some of the many ways these tiny seeds can help improve your health.

1. May Slow Aging

Pomegranates have polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that many believe slows aging. A look at polyphenol-rich foods including pomegranates has shown that it does in fact help extend the lifespan, according to new research from the University of Kansas.

2. Increases Testosterone

Researchers looked at 60 volunteers, and the results were clear: drinking pomegranate juice increased the level of testosterone in the saliva. Testosterone has myriad benefits, including increased muscle, reduced fat, renewed energy, better moods and, of course, an improved sex drive. The study found a surge in T levels in both men and women. Another small study, published in Journal of Impotence Research, suggested that pomegranate juice might have natural Viagra-like effects. The researchers reported that 47 percent of men with mild-to-moderate erectile dysfunction (ED) reported improvement after drinking the juice daily for one month, compared to a 31 percent rate of improvement in men who drank apple juice. Intriguingly, throughout history, the pomegranate has been a symbol of fertility and has long been thought to have aphrodisiac powers.

3. Lowers Bad Cholesterol

Pomegranate juice may well slow the buildup of cholesterol for those who have risk factors associated with heart disease. This has to do with the tangy juice’s high levels of polyphenols and other antioxidants, which reduce “bad” cholesterol.

4. Zaps Inflammation

Pomegranates reduce inflammation and stop the breakdown of cartilage. This is particularly helpful for those suffering from arthritis, as it prevents its onset and severity, according to research published in the Journal of Inflammation. It does this by stopping the overproduction of cytokines, which are responsible for inflammation and the destruction of tissue when produced in excess.

5. May Control Blood Pressure

The study was small, but the results were promising—study participants drinking pomegranate juice significantly improved their blood pressure in only a week compared to those who only drank water. Drinking the ancient elixir also showed improved ratios of the stress hormone cortisol and cortisone, its inert counterpart. In a 2012 study lasting two weeks, sipping the juice improved blood pressure and reduced stiffness in arterial walls.

6. Fights Cancer

Some components of the tangy juice have the potential to stop cancer cells from spreading, according to researchers at the University of California. The research was conducted on prostate cancer cells that were prone to spread, but the cells treated with pomegranate juice were less likely to do so.

7. May Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease

Research on mice shows that pomegranate juice improved behavior in a model of Alzheimer’s disease. Mice given pomegranate juice were able to learn tasks more quickly and swim faster than mice that received sugar water.

Want to work this nutritional powerhouse into your diet? Several sites feature creative recipes that are nutritious and delicious. Here are a handful of my favorites, plus shopping tips:
  • Eating Well’s Healthy Pomegranate Recipes include a variety of salads, main dishes, and a handful of pomegranate drinks, such as mimosas, iced tea, and a pomegranate cosmopolitan. Although pomegranate juice won’t get you the fiber packed in the ruby red seeds, you’ll still benefit from the antioxidants and various other vitamins and nutrients.
  • AllRecipes.com features a wide variety of recipes—pomegranate-themed ones included—submitted by readers.
If you choose to drink the tangy juice, make sure it’s pure pomegranate juice rather than a sugar-loaded mixture of fruit juices. As always, it’s wise to check with a doctor before making major dietary changes. Pomegranate juice can cause dangerous side effects when combined with certain medications.
If you’re preparing the juicy fruit, start by cutting off the “crown” and slicing what’s left into sections. Then, place those sections into lukewarm water. You’ll be able to easily roll out the seeds with your fingers. Strain the water, and you’re ready to eat.

New Study Finds Coconut Oil Can Help with Fat Loss

For the study, which was published in the medical journal Lipids, the researchers assembled 40 female volunteers between the ages of 20 and 40 who suffered from abdominal obesity. Over a 12-week period, the women were given 30 millimeters of either soybean oil or coconut oil on a daily basis. During this time, the volunteers were instructed to follow their regular diet and walk for 50 minutes per day. At the end of the 12-week period, the researchers found that the women who were given the coconut oil experienced a significant reduction in both BMI and waist circumference, as well as an increase in "good" HDL cholesterol. These results were not found in the group that was given soybean oil.

"It appears that dietetic supplementation with coconut oil does not cause dyslipidemia and seems to promote a reduction in abdominal obesity," the researchers concluded.

While the "superfood" label is often overused in natural health circles, most researchers will admit that coconut oil deserves it. This edible oil, which is produced from the flesh of coconuts, has been shown to possess amazing antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties, improve blood cholesterol levels, boost energy and much more. However, a peer-reviewed Brazilian study has also found that consuming just 30 millimeters (1 ounce) of coconut oil a day can help treat abdominal obesity - providing yet more evidence that healthy saturated fats are essential for long-term weight loss.

Coconut oil contains fats that aid weight loss

Though coconut oil was demonized for decades due to its considerable saturated fat content, scientists now understand that there is a big difference between the long-chain triglycerides (LCTs) found in foods like cheese and meat and the medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) found in foods like coconut oil. Unlike the former, which must be broken down in the intestines and transported to the blood before they can be used for energy, the latter are metabolized very quickly and actually bypass the fat cells in which they might otherwise be stored. For this reason, dieters who choose to receive their fats from MCT-rich foods like coconut oil will experience the greatest long-term results.

Note: The best kind of coconut oil to purchase is organic, raw coconut oil. Refined coconut oil, which has been bleached and deodorized, has a compromised nutritional profile and, depending on the manner in which it was processed, might even contain harmful trans fats. Therefore, make sure that you always choose raw coconut oil that was extracted from fresh coconut meat. This kind of oil will possess the unmistakable scent of coconut, signifying minimal processing.
